Based on our Artbiogs finalist and prize-result data from the past three years, 2026 Archibald, Wynne and Sulman finalists appear to show stronger recent prize momentum than other finalists in the dataset. In this export, 15.4% of Big-three finalists had recorded a prize win between 2022 and 2025, compared with 6.4% of other 2026 finalists. This does not predict who will win, but it does suggest that artists with recent prize success are more heavily represented across the 2026 AGNSW Big-three finalist lists.
We have indexed 34 prizes to date and as a result we can show the artists who have been most popular with the judges in 2026

Whenever I visit an exhibition, I simply scan an artwork label and instantly receive a concise profile of the artist, including many of their previous art prize appearances and achievements.
The name Surfaced comes from the idea that the Australian art prize landscape is a vast sea of information. Rather than trying to catalogue everything, the app “surfaces” artists who have been recorded as finalists in at least one Australian art prize during the past five years.
The database currently contains more than 36,000 finalist records spanning the last decade and covering over 13,400 artists. Those numbers continue to grow as new prizes and exhibitions are added.
A typical artist profile includes links to the artist’s Instagram account, the number of prize exhibitions they have appeared in, prizes won, and a detailed history of finalist exhibitions.
What makes the app particularly useful is that many highly active and successful art prize artists rarely appear in major public gallery collections. Artbiogs: Surfaced helps curators, students, collectors, and art enthusiasts discover artists who might otherwise remain under the radar.
